Our Purpose
We are committed to defending the rugged Welsh coast, ancient woodland, and the historic legacy of the Plas Penrhos estate.
Our work focuses on informing people about the area, shielding and documenting the rare red squirrel population and ancient woodlands of Holyhead, protecting a landscape where natural wonder and Welsh history remain as one.
Threats to Penrhos
Current development plans pose a critical risk to the Penrhos ecosystem. These proposals involve clearing extensive areas of ancient woodland, resulting in significant deforestation. The construction of a large volume of holiday homes would fragment vital habitats and cause severe disturbance to the local wildlife that depends on this sanctuary.
Furthermore, the data centre being constructed at the neighbouring aluminium plant presents a significant environmental threat to Holyhead. While bringing very few local jobs, it is expected to generate high levels of noise, heat and environmental pollution to the Penrhos Nature Reserve situated right next door. The facility will require vast amounts of natural water for industrial cooling, producing substantial waste and further stressing the local environment with huge machinery being used during and after construction, forever changing the lives of the local animal inhabitants.
How You Can Help Save Penrhos
There are simple, practical ways for every visitor to take action and help us protect this precious landscape for future generations.
1. Make your views known to Local Council
Speak up against revised plans that threaten increased parking, traffic, and the loss of free access. Ask the Council to reject these changes to protect our SSSI wildlife and ancient woodland. Submit your comments via the Anglesey planning portal (Ref: RM/2026/2) or email planning@anglesey.gov.wales, focusing on planning impacts.
2. Support our Community Buyout
Our goal is to bring Penrhos into community ownership forever. You can help by donating toward purchase and legal costs, sharing the appeal with your network, or joining our fundraising events and auctions. Every gift or pledge moves us closer to securing our heritage.
3. Spread the word! #SavePenrhos
Awareness is power. Follow us on social media to share our news, talk to your local councillors about why Penrhos matters to you, and write to local media outlets to keep the campaign in the public eye.
4. Stay informed and get involved
